This was the last time Sibelius stood in front of an orchestra in Germany. He conducted his second symphony at the invitation of Busoni, listened to and studied new pieces by Debussy, Mahler and Strauss, took English lessons and entered into a publishing contract with Robert Lienau in Berlin.
